Martha’s my favorite companion of all time, and I rarely see her celebrated as much as the others. The quote “Martha Jones, voice of a nightingale” comes from Captain Jack Harkness, and it’s one of my favorite quotes used to describe her.
Remembering, of course, that the Doctor was completely unnecessary in her defeat of the Master. Everyone on earth chanting his name at the same time did nothing to defeat the Master, all it did was de-old the Doctor. What did defeat the Master was Martha Jones outsmarting him, tricking him into bringing her onboard the Valiant. She outsmarted perhaps the only person in the Universe who’s smarter than the Doctor. Let’s give Martha Jones some credit here. She didn’t just stumble into her save-the-day moment like some companions that get all the love!
